Blue Sage Board of Directors
Celia Roberts grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky and has been serving on the Blue Sage Board since October of 2011. She has been a supporter of the Blue Sage since its inception in 1993, but hadn’t joined the Board until now because of time and energy constraints. That, and she felt that the timing was finally right.
Celia brings to the Board great listening skills, which allows her to connect the dots in a unique way while maintaining her sight on the bigger picture. Her undergraduate degree in math makes her good with the numbers side of the community center business. Having served on the Paonia Chamber of Commerce Board, and being a working artist gives her a unique insight into the needs of the community.
Celia’s favorite Blue Sage Event is the Black Eyed Pea Jubilee on New Year’s Day and she loves the Blue Sage for offering beautiful classical music and other events and gallery exhibits that bring our valley community together. In 2020 she would like to see the Blue Sage be fiscally sound, continuing with the classical music series, and be offering inspiring art and music classes for the community, especially for the youth.
When not volunteering for the Blue Sage, she likes to photograph nature and people. She is presently working on a project documenting the lives of our nation’s farmworkers and their families. Every year Celia publishes a bilingual calendar called the “Gracias” series, using various themes to honor farmworkers and educate the public about who they are, their values, and how much they contribute to the country through their labor. “Gracias po la Tierra” is the 2012 calendar that is the 13th in the series.
Celia has been advocating for social issues since the early 1970s, especially with respect to world hunger. Participating in “Dances of Universal Peace” is one of her favorite activities, along with traveling abroad and camping in her little trailer, always with a camera, of course!
