James Schott, President
Blue Sage Board of Directors
James Schott spent his young years in Morgan, Utah, but claims Paonia as his hometown. He has been serving on the Blue Sage Board since 2009, and became the President in 2011. He says he joined the Board because his neighbor, Francois Pretorius, convinced him it was a great idea before he had lived here long enough to know better. We all know it’s really because of his enthusiasm for Roberts’ Rules of Order.
Why did the Board accept him? They will say it’s because of his other experience on boards (Paonia Chamber of Commerce, Delta Conservation District, Boulder Farmers Market), and the knowledge he brings from running his own business. The truth is that James and his wife, Carol Schott, make delicious goat cheese, and the Board-meeting potlucks were beginning to get a little bland.
James’ favorite Blue Sage events are the Chili Cookoff and the classical music concerts, which may say a lot about what kind of a person he is. He loves the Blue Sage because of its role as a community center, and hopes that by 2020 it will serve an even greater segment of the community.
Presently, James is enjoying his time on Lamborn Mesa learning how to be a farmer and silently chuckling to this joke:
“So this grasshopper walks into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, ‘Hey, we have a drink named after you.” The grasshopper’s eyes get big, and he asks eagerly, ‘You really have a drink named Leonard?!”
