On Friday, March 30th from 7-9 pm at the Blue Sage Center for the Arts in Paonia, local Barbe Chambliss will share her stories of peacemakers she has interviewed from Afghanistan, Southeast Asia, Iraq, Zimbabwe, and Paonia. Several years ago Barbe shared the stories of five women she had interviewed for her Ph.D. dissertation entitled Contemporary Women Peacemakers: The Hidden Side of Peacemaking. Since that time she has interviewed 45 women throughout the world and is in the process of writing a book on the subject.

Barbe will describe her unique definition of peace. She will discuss how violence starts, escalates, and travels in the world, and she will describe a method of turning around this cycle. Then she will share the stories of six women who are bringing about peace, in both small and large ways, by improving educational opportunities, preventing human trafficking, revealing critical information, rebuilding war torn communities, and addressing the abuse done to AIDS orphans. These stories are compelling, tender, and instructive. By the end of the evening, each audience member will have become aqcquainted with eight peacemakers. Expect some surprises.

Barbe spends half of each week as a mediator and therapist in Carbondale, and the other half of her week working on her book and negotiating with 150 fruit trees on her small farm on Pitkin Mesa. She sees her calling as waking up the peacemaker in as many people as possible during her time on the Earth.

Admission is $10, available in advance through Brown Paper Tickets and the Blue Sage Gallery.
